This isn't really that different from the original, it's just a somewhat differently structured arrangement of the same elements. So yeah. Still badadss though.

btw did you do something new with Unwavering Assault? It appeared on my "recently modified projects" again

"This isn't really that different from the original, it's just a somewhat differently structured arrangement of the same elements. So yeah. Still badadss though."

Exactly, just added a few new melodies and things. I had to rush this at school during a lunchbreak because I was like a week and a half away from the show.

"btw did you do something new with Unwavering Assault? It appeared on my "recently modified projects" again"

Yes. I randomly remembered that in the Author's Comments of that I had something like "thanks to SBB for the guitar" and my inner OCD self momentarily took control.

Thanks for reviewing all these songs man, you're awesome.

Oh sweet. I love this. Have you heard the 4/4 version of the Mission Impossible theme that is the first result when you search for "Mission impossible theme" on youtube? That track is to the original MI theme like this version is to the original High Flier I think. It has massive amounts of #swag

Removing half a star for the bitch-ass flute that didn't really add anything at all though

Step responds:

When I search that all I get is the usual 5/4 theme that then switches to 4/4 later on. Not sure if that's the one you're referring to.

The flute is silly I know :3. I added it only as a testament to the bassline I used in the original High Flier. I tried using all sorts of other synths and things but I have yet to make badass-sounding non-cheesy lead synths because all the ones I tried either didn't fit at all or sounded like a dairy factory of cheesiness.

#YOLOswag

seem my comments about the other one :) The vocal sounds good though. Also this version is a bit less suspenseful and mostly just atmospheric which is nice.

and this loops just amazingly

Step responds:

It's better that it's atmospheric now actually, since this is meant to be the version that plays in-between one item in the show and another. The other one was more suspenseful kinda unintentionally, but looking back it works because Wonder Woman's character in the show is almost OCD-like, so it's kinda suspenseful knowing that one slight imperfection will make her mad.

If that makes any sense.

Awesome, you've learned to use Omnisphere tastefully :D I was a little worried when I heard your first songs with it admittedly because it was so painfully obvious. But here is blends in great and accompanies the orchestra totally fine! The song is beast too btw

Step responds:

Yeah it honestly doesn't take that long to get used to Omnisphere. And once I get to know how to use its synthesis features in the zoom pages properly, I can actually make patches and properly edit existing patches :3.

Glad you liked this!

I found out the secret to making breakbeats in this song btw, inspired by your idea of adding muted snare hits to replicate live drumming.

First you choose your samples properly (snare in particular is hard), make a simple beat with a kick, snare and a hat line, and it probably won't sound fantastic. Then, find a drum loop (there are plenty all over the internet), turn its volume down, time-stretch it to match your project's tempo, EQ out lots of unnecessary frequencies (usually bass frequencies) and add it to your beat. It adds so much fullness to the beat (provided it's not too loud or too quiet), and it's so quick to do. You can add more of these quiet loops and mix and match them together with your beat to create the illusion of variation. It's cheap but it works haha.

For example, here's the beat of this song without the premade drum loops:

And here it is with three quiet drum loops layered with it:

Man I talk too much. Thanks for the review man.

Hey I've heard Sanctuary already! It's your best and most successful song isn't it

there's nothing much new except the intro maybe but it's Sanctuary so it's great. The animation was cool, this is something like a school revue isn't it? Those are fun, I played guitar on a boat during ours last year :P

Step responds:

"Hey I've heard Sanctuary already! It's your best and most successful song isn't it"

Yup yup yup. And the one which you left that AMAZING three-account review that I still go back to read sometimes.

"there's nothing much new except the intro maybe but it's Sanctuary so it's great. The animation was cool, this is something like a school revue isn't it? Those are fun, I played guitar on a boat during ours last year :P"

That's exactly what the show is, except that this one comes with an opening, a closing, and also scenes where comperes play, the comperes this year being Superman, Spiderman, Wonder Woman, Hulk, the evil witch and their respective sidekicks/henchmen. The show starts with a pre-opening scene with the evil witch discussing her plans to trap the heroes in a comic book and ruin the show since she wasn't allowed to take part last year, and then it moves on to the opening. Then there's another compere scene, a few items (sketches, dances or songs), another scene, etc... Keeps on going till the closing sequence and the curtain call.

The script for the scenes is really good and the acting was great. It was an awesome experience but horribly stressful because the first time we all managed to do a proper run-through of the show was not during rehearsals but literally during the first show in front of hundreds of people.

I like this, the chromatic line at the start is good for drama or suspense. Not sure what more to say, you have excellent orchestral sounds and a great sense of dynamics and composition as usual

Step responds:

Sweeeeet. Glad you liked this.

Great intro! Not far from a big budget movie intro at all. The only thing I noticed is that there's something weird going on with the reverb/release tail at 0:16-0:17, it seems to cut off artificially. Great transition to the more electronic part, didn't see it coming at all from the intro. It morphs wonderfully into the more electronic main part, that part is a bit too busy though I think. Maybe cutting the bass or low mids of the orchestra there would be a good idea. Then from 1:00 you have a really super solid hip hop beat, I love it. You should take that part and make a new non-superman loop out of it

Step responds:

"Great intro! Not far from a big budget movie intro at all."

Superman's the first hero to appear in the opening so it's awesome to hear that.

"The only thing I noticed is that there's something weird going on with the reverb/release tail at 0:16-0:17, it seems to cut off artificially."

Dunno about that... over there the tempo dies down a little which may be why it sounds a bit weird.

"Great transition to the more electronic part, didn't see it coming at all from the intro."

Haha yes that was the general idea. All heroic and orchestral and then BAM a hip-hop beat comes in.

"It morphs wonderfully into the more electronic main part, that part is a bit too busy though I think. Maybe cutting the bass or low mids of the orchestra there would be a good idea."

I didn't notice that at first but it makes sense because it's VERY hard to make hip-hop out of the Superman theme so to make it as epic-sounding as possible I just threw in all I could. Maybe I should've just made the trumpet stand out a bit more, since the busyness made it hard to make out the melody.

"Then from 1:00 you have a really super solid hip hop beat, I love it. You should take that part and make a new non-superman loop out of it"

I did something similar to that in the alternate version of this :3.

Thanks for reviewing dude.

I'm gonna have to review all these eventually anyway so let's do it! This is like your earlier percussion pieces on steroids, HUUGE reverb without that much mud (it's a little undefined still). Love the menacing deep drones and bassy percussion. The show better be awesome for it to do the soundtrack justice

Step responds:

Even though this is one of my least favourites from the tracks I made (since it's a bit bland being almost entirely percussion) it's certainly my favourite part in the show. This shows up in the opening with hulk and like 15 other dancers, stomping and smashing their hands on their legs/floor, etc... and it's choreographed so well.

Not only that, but we rented a massive LED screen for backdrops and animations, and a good friend of mine (Akle, the guy who made that cooking film with Buoyant in the background) drew an INCREDIBLE jungle and animated it so that there are these firefly things flying around and camera wiggles (as if someone's holding a camera). We even checked the choreography and added a shake on the screen whenever there's a stomp in the dance, making it look like the dancers are causing earthquakes. It looks DEVASTATING.

Temporary happygasm over. Yeah the show was amazing. Fantastic singers, dancers, sketches, everything. This happens every year and last year I assumed this kind of thing was a little school pageant. When I took part in it this year I realised how wrong I was. Thousands showed up to see it.

Thanks for reviewing :3.

This is so much cooler than the other one :o The drum fill intro is so cool, and the drum sound is so full and wide and awesome. Frigging brilliant organ sound (what patch/soundsources did you use?) and especially the playing. There's some neat guitarish thing in the background too, it would be cool to have that louder. Loops great too!

can you put me in the credits for this one instead of the original?

Step responds:

You're reviewing all of them? YAY OMG WOOOOO.

"This is so much cooler than the other one :o"

Haha, I prefer the other one since this is basically the same thing throughout with the vocals at the beginning and then some organ riffs. But I do love that Hammond organ.

"The drum fill intro is so cool, and the drum sound is so full and wide and awesome."

The drum fill intro messes up the loop a little (would've been a lot smoother to loop it without that bar of silence for the fill) but it sounded too good for me to just start the song without the fill. Drums are EZdrummer, love that VST.

"Frigging brilliant organ sound (what patch/soundsources did you use?) and especially the playing."

The patch is called Go To This Church, with some EQing, reverb, chorus, all that good stuff.

"There's some neat guitarish thing in the background too, it would be cool to have that louder."

Yeah that was in the original too. There are actually lots of subtle things like that in this. There's that WahWah guitar, a snappy rhythmic groove from Omnisphere, a Tonewheel sound from Omnisphere, a lounge-ish multi from Omnisphere, and even a very subtle spacey arp thing from z3ta+. I was going to turn the guitar up but it sounds kinda cheesy haha.

"Loops great too!"

Skye didn't like the loop, so it's good to know that someone else does like it!

"can you put me in the credits for this one instead of the original?"

I can put you in the credits for both lol. But OK, sure!
