Interesting lil song here, but it still is trancey. Nice phasing and reverbing of that lead. Drums are a bit glitchy, but sound good. The oldschool lead fit perfectly to make a whole new machinic feeling to the song. Nice DnB style drums later on the song. Greatly done song.

Bento-San responds:

Thanks for the reveiw, i agree with the drums needing a little work ive been thinking that myself. Ill see what i can do about cleaning them up a bit before i do up upload at mp3.com

Keep an eye on - http://www.mp3.com/artist/BENTO-SAN/songs/

weh

doesn't sound a lot ambient-y to me except for the start- it's all very very reverbed. The saw bass with a little delay that goes forever with 3 notes, You could've changed it up, or given it some melody- you change a bit of it later on tho

Interesting 'alien' fx and winds, they surely make the ambient atmosphere- but not much

Then there's a new sawtoothe/PWM lead, it's okay but you shoulda used another kind of lead for the same melody, the sawyness gets a bit tiring after a while

percussion, techno thumps and some higher percussion like hats and shakerz, works out except for the thumps- needs more snare and reverbed kick

Really, quite an interesting piece. Did you put a reverb on the master track or something? That would be friggin lazy, but work out excellent

It's a bit more minimal techno (the thumps turned one part extremely ghey) mixed with ambience- But that's for sure a good thing too! :D

CyrusOfNaias responds:

Wow, just to start a great review, too.

I didn't put reverb on the whole track, but I used automations like crazy(hence the alien effects). This really is only the fourth time I've really used slicing and automations, but then again I've realized they're necessities!

I believe the lead synth needed just a tad more on the volume and filter, but I didn't really think of what you suggested. I'll keep that in mind.

Like I said, thanks for the review and trust me, I'm not even close to being done with this fascinating program. Catch ya later!

interesting title lawl

For once I can hear the vocals excellent. Sounds a bit- early pink floyd or supertrampish

the whole thing is dipped in a whole lotta reverb, so the piano sounds almost like a pad. A little plucky acoustic guitar I could imagine would sound great

snoballandthmonyshot responds:

cheers SBBBBBBB,
the reverb thing is a shame, sounds really murky, i did the piano and lead vox a couple of years ago and all i have is a wav of the 2, no way to clean it up.

nice triangle synth in the start, sounds bouncy- glitch beats doesn't really fit my taste- disorted square synth? a lil far away sounding, but good. Plucky guitar- simple thingy, interesting loop, could like to be an octave or so lower, it sounds annoying that high. Vocals are pretty drowning in the mixage, but I can get a slight idea of what you're saying. Unique lil compostion, can't see much wrong with it except for really small things based on opinions

pitbulljones responds:

hey SBB, most of the synth work is done in crystal for this track, infact all of it, theres only two lol. lots of morphing patched together till something comes out that i like.

You don't like the glitch beats? awwwwwwww! im still getting me head round it so there will be a few mistakes once im tighter with it hopefully i can turn you.

The second synth again done in cystal, added the northpole filter to it for the distortion. Yea plucky guitar, simple as you say, you wouldve thought it sounded better an octave down, but that second synth clashed with it, so played it from the 15th fret (g) on the e string and b.

The vocals are meant to be washy, probably whats losing the clarity is the reversed reverb i used. and all i say is 'close you eyes, just leave me be'

anyways i think you like it, just pointing out a few things you werent too happy with, and opinions matter so thanks for the pointers.

what

what's that thing in the start? sounds like a cheap brass soundfont, cause it's screaming "SAMPLERRRR" loud and clear- if I'm wrong then fuck it

interesting panning thing, a little annoying, but it makes an atmosphere.

The lead guitar sounds like... off tone, a guitar version of someone singing horribly false, get it? Should have some tuning or at least some better notes- the other guitar sounds okay to me, a lil low possibly

nice rolly drums

interesting composition, lollish

KitsuMech responds:

Haha. Hooray this finally got a review!

That, in the beginning, would be whatever 'instrument' swells up in the original MIDI.

I'm still working on how I pan and everything mixes together in the end. It's still a lot of Greek to me.

I'm totally digging the review though, thanks mate!

eh

the song sounds good itself but I can't see much of the "Castle Crashers" feeling they call it in it, and it seems to have a terrible compression quality

The toms are interesting, they are pretty djembe sounding. other percussion sounds like they're mashed on a major lot, but it sounds far away.

The sample in the start... I can't understand why it is there, it just sounds stupid there

Loop perfectly, greaet job on that

Flute sounds pretty good, you shoulda changed it up a lil prolleh btw

It's okay but it has some serious flaws that shoulda been fixed first

(did you get offended by my response to your review btw? na it's not serious at all :)

loogiesquared responds:

nop...
anways, ty!

for the review

Interesting lil phased piano you got, but I'd really like it much more if you removed the phaser and put some kickass reverb in its place. I like the froggy fx, seems to fit pretty well, but it kinda messes the sound up. Plus the clipping's there for a while. Love your drum progression, drum rolls ftw

WritersBlock responds:

Thanks for the review. This is one of my favourite of my own songs. For some reason, I just threw in all the parts a couple of beats apart from each other in the end, I don't know why...
I think the echo and the drums make it sound more complex than it really is.

The drums! A glitched loop in the FPC, I'd love to be able to custom make a rolling loop like that one day =D

Cheers

Yes

I like the disorted leads, they seem to fit pretty well with the punchy bassies and padz. The disortion seems to take a little overhand in the more energetic parts, but that's it for the cons. wtf does the title mean btw.

pitbulljones responds:

cheers for the review SBB. Yea the distortion is a string that i've ran through the northpole filter plugin, it is absolutley awesome plugin get you hands on it seriously.

My main concern on this track is the guitar chord, but too much overdrive and too close, but i couldn't get a good balance with it. that opening synth was achieved by using crystals hybrid option, patch a couple of presets together kept morphing em, this is just the very opening of the patch the rest of it sounded horrendous but it works in this tune.

The title as pointed out above means...

Close Your Eyes, Something Nice is About to Happen.

thanks again

okay

garagebandish pads at first- now it evolves into some more dramatic slow DnB/Trance style track with tons of atmosphere and ambience

Some garbage monophonic synths

Laz0r effects and urban fx then a vgish melody gallery with the same garbage sine monosynths- now for some much better synths and a good sinebass then it ends with the same gb msical fx

Good job, but I felt it wasn't put together too well, it's a lot like many parts of good soongs put together in a half decent attempt

Tigerfrog responds:

Its always hard to find good synths on Garageband, and even harder to make use of the MIDI drums that come with the program. I used (royalty free) prerecorded drum beats and sound effects from the internet in an effort to make this sound better than electronic music on Garageband should.

I'll be happy with a half decent attempt, at least until I get Fruity Loops or some better program for electronic music.

umm

why did you just put together other songs into a half-assed attempt at a 'project'? It's just small bits of other people's tetris remixes faded in and out. Seriously, what the hell? was this that ambitious project you needed to make a thread about?

TETRISNG responds:

yes, it is
