modern retro?

hmmm that's one crazy combination

But this song is actually quite good except for the screamin lead all over it. Liked the disco thing and all the percussion work.

could like to see some more originality here though, but good work!

(O_o you're the first artist at NG I ever downloaded a song from, that Dire Dire Docks thing when I begun my account ^^)

Rawrthaas responds:

Yay! This means we are destined to be brothers for life.

i give 'bah' as the title for a review but realy

I'm kinda obbesed with your tunes now since they get so damn good now...

aaaaa in the beginning it just sprung my ears as I had the volume at full just when the song begun and after the totally loud shimmering percussion sounds I get this huge bitch of a lead straight from the headphones and in to my already beated down ear. That's just a LOW way of fighting, kicking the ones laying down. Even in the musical way. Ouch.

lucklily I find the goddamn volume control and get it way down to zero before I begin it at a lower volume. Still, ouch.

This time I can say you, this has got some great "Marching" feeling into it, maybe because of the fast march percussion that comes in at certain parts. The rest of the percussion is all good, though it is the ongoing that makes the difference.

And as it comes farther, about 1:28, it begins with some strange new synth which doesn't sound all that good, maybe because of the echo in it that should've been removed entirely, it gives a bad and off-key effect to the whole song. and the synth itself isn't all that good either- it could've been replaced with a much better synth.

The original pad in this is very far-awayish and not very standing out in the array of synth this song has. It isn't really needed though.

the sfx blipping that comes in right before the delayed cnocly synth sounds really good, but could've been placed at more sensible places and places that it doesn't sound all that musical, but gives someone to the listener outsdde the music, kinda pinkfloydish like

the ending sequence about 15 seconds before it ends sounds just perfect, it could've been a more major part of the song, and I could really see it placed all over the track.

But this song is really something that stands out among others, with total control though it is fast-paced.

Great work Stealth, cookie for you ^^

Stealth-Emergence responds:

Cool thanks for your review SBB glad you liked it and I think everything is fine where I placed it!

Peace Out!

oooh

I see you have some speak in this... and it doesn't give much sense tho - I loved this track, but it has a bit too much effect and a bit lack of music. Loved how you kept going forward with the track though.

and this is a short review because there isn't much to say.
(Is the voice saying pwn?)

RedHotPoker responds:

Origionaly the voice was describing the look of and how to use a shrivled up monkeys paw. But i thought it would be fun to make it sound like it was talking about porn so i funked it up.

I'm not sure what u mean about to much effort but i guess there are alot of things going on at once.

ok

sound fx... it does give the feeling.

And the choirs in this are really straightforward and not very floating in to the image you'd normally get of this song.

shit that flanged thing doesn't sound good at all. Remove it now.

Again you had some nice bells, but I really din't feel they did mych to the track as a unit. you should really have a lot more in these tracks, as I could see them getting some great pieces of music.

RedHotPoker responds:

I'm not sure what a "flanged" is but thanks for the review man.

okay

having numbers as your title is totally irrelevant, you should have good and remarkable titles.

But that's not thew point, I'm here to review some ambience.

The disortion that keeps going in this song is not good, if it was something you should really make it peak out that it is what it is and not just mess. But I believe this is just disortion so master your goddamn tunes >:C

I loved the choir-ish pads in this, really something mysterious and very good for what making you think that something great will come out of this. But it really doesn't, it's damn slow and doesn't really go anywhere.

I loved the gongy thing in it, though it hasn't got any rupose with the song not going anywhere. But it's nice silence music, I'll give you that.

RedHotPoker responds:

Good and remarkable titles are for losers. '-'

Lol. I guess it doesnt go any were but the type of music i want to make is sort of sit back and relax type stuff. It sort of washes over you. But i get where your coming from.

As for the distortion i was going to master it down but my computer went to shit and this was what was left. :/

Thanks

this

is an usual trance thingy... it is just a melody with slight variations, and it is really just one synth, so it isn't really diverse, but the synth is good, and the melody is at least decent, so you'll get a good score, though I could like to see more than just one synth.

Master117chief responds:

Omg that was not susposed to be the same

shizzle!

whoa, that breathing atmospheric start was just LOUD... you sorta killed my speakers... it goes from nothing to quite a lot.

But it is a start that gives me an excpetion of something HUGE in the latter parts of the song. I don't know with that fx triangly thing did there, it made a really shimmering and high pitched noise that kinda destroyed the first parts of the song. And the noisy synth thing is also kinda spoiling it.

But after a while this song gets a lot better, when you added the percussion and bass. It's a very slow and long song that takes a while to really get on with it.

And when you put in that video game lead I really begun liking it- the destruction of it makes a very unique feeling to the song. It's melody is hard to catch, but it is good when you get it.

the blippy sounds going through the whole song, I didn't quite catch them up before it begun for the second time. It is really a great addition to the song, makes it sound electronic, yet not at the same time.

I could easily imagine this song for a cave theme in a game it has just about everything a cave theme needs.

This is some good stuff, though I could like to see just a single synth more in the end... a more lead-ish one, it would've made the song sound a lot more diversed (This really is, but you need to listen really well to it to catch the diversity in it.)

And, yay for awesome endings

MenialConstruct responds:

Stop whining ya bastard >:(

Was the breathing too loud. Woops lol. All the sound fxs I made were supposed to set the atmosphere you know. Much like you said, cave setting. I didn't really think they ruined it.

It does have a long build up. Unfortunately, I had a lot of trouble working a drumbeat and melody into this, as I was working in 5/4 time.(I don't know why lol)

When the "blippy" sound comes in it changes the entire song almost, bu soon goes almost unnoticed as all other instruments come in. I think it was a pretty cool effect.

Well thanks for the review and vote

Now you can take down you sig >:)

wtf LOL.

that part in the start has a very nice atmosphere pad, but it kinda gets drawn out by the kinda random kicks that you put in every fourth measure...

The pad, however, is really great, a very heavily reverbed pad with breath and choirs as a main part that actually makes a cold vox with all the effects you put on it. It plays slow notes, not really a melody since it's so slow and minimal, but I suppose that's the fastest you CAN play with a pad like this.

Good that you had some much better percussion work later in the song, and it was about friggin time since the piano came in just at that part. The percussion is simple, yet very very suiting this track.

The piano is really good sounding, but some of the sound parts that you had at many of the piano's melodies sound really shimmering and off-tone.

As usual you have put a load of different background fx and fx pads, which gives the song a very "living" feeling. Yet it is empty at the parts with no fx because there is nothing more than synthed pads and other instruments that doesn't give life to a song, they give melody to it.

I better go makesomething now that you inspired me with this track!

Great ambience Karco, you're getting really great.

Karco responds:

Hmm... those kicks were intended to add to the atmosphere, and they actually aren't every fourth measure, there's no real pattern. I put them where they sounded the best. Hah!

Yeah, I really like those pads. I have a lot of those with the "spacey" feeling. Often I get inspiration from one of them... that's how this song, Nova, Phantom Zero, Lost in Time, and a few others started out.

I'd have to agree about the percussion, it was one of my better choices for this song. Nothing else to add here.

The piano sounded off-key? Hmm, it didn't to me. It could be NG, or it could be how high the notes are in the last bit. Hmm.

I can see what you mean with the FX and how it sounds empty at times, but see the thing is I didn't want to be criticized for using them too much... I guess I went too far the other way, instead! Hah.

Thanks for the review, glad you like it. I wonder what you'll make with the inspiration this song gave you. =)

EDIT 4-10-08: At least five songs? XD

dude

This track loops perfectly, and I've had it going for about one hour now... it's a bit annoying hearing the same thing all over but it's a good track though.

It's another techno man eh? I think this is a lot mroe trance than techno, as it's the same "catchy, repeative" style, with typical trance synths. There's such a lot of them at NG, but many of them, like this, are enjoyable.

It's so repeative that it's nearly unbelieveable, it's like a loop going on all the time with some slight variations, thugh these slight variations make some diversity in the track.

It's a good base riff you made on is though, and you did a great job with percussion and countermelodies.

I could like to see some more backgrounds instead of just trance strings, a very low atmospheric ambient pad could have done a great thing to the track at certain parts.

Good job man, it's a good track.

Drakkin responds:

ya, that was the main problem I had with it to (the repetitiveness of it) I will definitely work on that, thanks a lot for the review :D
