You can't handle magikarp.
so yeah
this is as good as it gets really... when using band in a box. The solos are impressive though. And it's a very good tool for coming up with backing tracks as you can probably figure as long as you don't use the solo feature but yeah anyway it sounds cool. And please tell me if you figure out how to make it not do that count in in the beginning every time.
Thanks for the unexpected review, didn't think I had followers!
I guess I don't have much to say, since most of the credit goes to BB... As for how to take out the precounting, I haven't really tried messing with it, I only did this song to try out the software, since I only got it the day before. Worry not that I'll PM you the day I learn how to so though!
BTW, since you seem intrested in my work, just saying I'm posting what I believe to be one of, if not my best work yet in a few minutes, so check it out!
cool
Considering the fact that this song is long as hell I'm just gonna write down whatever I think upon listening to it.
Really cool stuff started building up around 0:48, and the delay thing around 0:56 is just great. I'm not all for the rimshot sound here and there, some of the sounds just sound you know, programmed and midi-like, same wit hthe snare.
1:30 is a pretty early point to drop the intensity in an 18 minute song... not that it matters since you got back on track after a few seconds
So after about 2 minutes it sounds like it's getting pretty random. I don't care too much for this part. Some cool background sounds at 3:00 though. The mood changes pretty quickly without any apparent structure yet.
The gliding synth thing is generally unpleasant and the open hat is too loud. I like the glockenspiel kinda thing. Quite creamydreamy
I like the playfulness and minimalism around 6:something. It better build up to something great though.
It kinda did. Cool drum beans.
7:45 Awesome drum beans! 7:54 Meh cliche sitar! 8:00 DAT (acid) BASS
The kinda thing with vibrato or whatever, like a flute mellotron electric piano hybrid, what is it? I want that sound. It popped up again briefly round 10:05 and that calm part.
9:50 obnoxious lead sound
The next 3 minutes or so afterwards are nothing too special I think but dem drums get pretty intense.
13:32 is a proper chillout moment. The part after that is pretty nice. Some sounds feel out of place, especially some percussion. Sounds like you used reverb pretty sparsely, I woulda added a bus reverb or two and sent most of the non-bass mixer channels to it in moderate amounts to glue things together. At least that's what I often do to make things sit. That and bus compression.
Things get nice around the end too. Much of the same as before, but tighter and a bit more intense. Didn't get a big oh my god this is the song climax kind of feel though.
Those are just raw thought and things I could think of while listening to it, I don't have the stamina to write an indepth review on a song that's this long. What I can say about it in general is that it had a few too many "winding down" kind of moments, but it was a very cool collection of interesting sounds and I liked the minimalistic buildups most of all.
I liked Building better to be honest. It felt more consistent. But I applaud your efforts on doing something ambitious like writing an 18 minute song. Very well done.
The flute is tapeworm from tweak bench with a lot of delay/reverb effects layered on it. The low notes get a neat vibrating quality.
As a general note, there is reverb on most channels, but given the 60 some odd mixer channels the reverbs had to be clamped down by frequency pretty tight so not to turn into a white noise mess.
Pleased to read what you wrote SBB, I've gone over it a few times now for future projects consideration.
nice and airy but not mindblowing
one question though, is this post-dub or post-dubstep?
what's the difference?
ah cool
was wondering how you'd incorporate a 9/something beat into that. Turns out you just added another beat of stuff per bar, and luckily it doesn't sound too awkward! nice. I like the nerd bleepy bloop sound of the whole tune too. But other than that, there's not much fullness or depth in the tune, YET
yeah... it's pretty much just a shit ton of copy paste. i put it down as WIP but I don't know if I'll ever do anything to it :/
that was...
short and not very satisfying but pretty good as long as it lasted.
K Thanks :P
well that's impressive
the composition and harmonies are so much more interesting than the typical run of the mill strings mostly 'classical' submissions, this is great
Thanks dude, I heard your submission btw, I've been meaning to drop you a review, as well as the others who competed in the contest.
what a funny title.
And you must have a slow internet connection if you could make a 3 minute song while waiting for another one to upload. Anyway I would expect a drum and bass song to have at least a breakbeat, but this one is just a straight 4 on 4 kick kinda thing. I don't mind. Nothing that interested me that much here really. But the use of instruments and structure is sensible so you can obviously make sensible songs and I like that! :P
I was waiting for Newgrounds to approve my first song, I didn't know what catigory to put it under at the time, I thought Drum N Bass might be the best lol, Thank You for the review! :) Also I am REALLY bad at making names for songs I MEAN BAD XDD!

ahh
Excellent loop. Great melodies and attitude and intensity curve throughout the loop. Loops perfectly.
Thanks alot, glad you enjoyed!
Cheers
huh?!
I don't recall you being this good?
I mean the ethnic percussion and the orchestral percussion snaps nicely and sounds excellent. So does most of the other percussion except maybe the hard impacts don't really sound all that hard hitting. And the transition to the sitar part and the buildup from there is just excellent! You of all people, who talks about transitions all the time, should be proud of yourself :D.
And you really have a thick yet clear mix, with some nice touches here and there like the clarinet stuff and something that sounds like a deep choir sound or something idk.
And the main melody is just something I sooo wish I had come up with myself. It especially shines in the last part there, with the badass string ensemble.
And it ends with the best bang ever! man that was great! I went and downloaded it which isn't something I do often. Awesome work
OMG OMG OMG FAV FROM SBB
*faints*
:D
"I don't recall you being this good?"
I'm not. I stole this from a film score :3.
"I mean the ethnic percussion and the orchestral percussion snaps nicely and sounds excellent."
I'll have to thank Ethnoworld for that. Some of its melodic instruments are a bit bland/dry but the percussion is awesome.
"So does most of the other percussion except maybe the hard impacts don't really sound all that hard hitting."
You're completely right. I didn't feel like EQing them properly and I'm still not satisfied with their volume level.
"And the transition to the sitar part and the buildup from there is just excellent! You of all people, who talks about transitions all the time, should be proud of yourself :D."
Haha :D. Initially I had made it so that at 0:56 after the string note the sitar part immediately starts playing, but the next day I decided it was a terrible idea so I decided to go for a 'beat around the bush until the song finally goes to the next part' plan. Glad it succeeded :3.
"And you really have a thick yet clear mix, with some nice touches here and there like the clarinet stuff and something that sounds like a deep choir sound or something idk."
Thanks, although the only time I used a choir was for the fading effect thing you can first hear at 0:09-ish. The deep sound might be the double bass, I dunno.
"And the main melody is just something I sooo wish I had come up with myself. It especially shines in the last part there, with the badass string ensemble."
That melody is just pure luck. Like I said in the author's comments, it evolved from a mistake I made while playing the D harmonic minor scale on the piano.
"And it ends with the best bang ever! man that was great!"
Lol, the bang at the end took me 20 seconds max :P. I just chose a few random big hits from Stormdrum, and threw in a cello and french horn staccato note.
"I went and downloaded it which isn't something I do often. Awesome work"
Thanks a lot man, I REALLY appreciate the big review as usual, all the good feedback is inspiring me to work a bit more on this. But yeah, thanks again!
