sounds a bit ambient

The start definatively sounds ambient. I don't see why you submitted it to trance, it doesn't sound like that at all.. I don't get what the voice sample is saying. Wow, you have an evil voice lol. Pretty scary tune. Wow, that guitar sounds pretty cool. Sounds very good in the track, makes it even "darker". Drums are a tad weak. Some more instruments in the song wouldn't hurt.

it's the darkest tune I've heard in quite a while. Awesome song! Keep it up.

Thanks man. Glad you liked it ;)

lolneat

Intro is pretty slow ditty thing... then a massive dnb bass comes in- it sounds a lil overpowering but DAMN it sounds good. What's that abstract ditty thing in the start through the track?

Drums could be a bit louder for justice

Awesome work man, perfect for a battle theme

funky

Pretty catchy lil track, has a very dancy beat. I like how you put orchestral/classical elements into an electronic song. Not so sure how this would be ambient though. A bit repetitive, could use some changing up with the drums and so etc. Nice tune, I liked it

okkkkay

Obviously video game- cheesy, catchy melodies and composition.

the song may get a bit messy at parts, which I think is mainly because of the drums you have there. and possibly the horribly off-tune saw

Mentioning that it sounds like your detuned trance saw is played at other notes than they're intended to- it seems like you detuned it first- then you detuned it so much it doesn't sound like the note you're playing

there's a bit of clipping/disortion here, which really isn't good.

Piano sounds pretty good, nothing to comment there. Well played

Drums... wow that's a lot of snare rushes. They're quite annoying to me. I can hardly hear anything else than the snares, I think there may be a crash cymbal there- is it? :/

Overall it's quite a good composition with its flaws, and- terrible mastering

oh yeah and you're supposed to review the two prior submissions when posting a link- it's just something LJCoffee made up a while ago, but you should do so :)

WritersBlock responds:

Dunno where you got the detuned saw from, maybe coz I'm using chords in the saw, but that doesn't really make it sound out of tune though...
A bit of clipping, yeah, hoping it wasn't noticeable, since the saws and that have the fuzzy sound.
Yeah, there's a crash there, the drums are quite simple, but I don't find the snares to block much out, although I probably should have mixed it up a bit.
Cheers for the review.
And yes, I am aware of the 2 prior submissions rule, I just need to be in the right mood to write reviews, I have the pages bookmarked, and I usually get round to it by the day after, at the latest.

dancy

fast-paced stuff

All the synths sound a bit cheap, kinda cheesy preset-sound :/ The synth choice seems pretty logical though. It's just that they sound way basic

Tune sounds quite much like minimalist techno- not a lot in it nor does it have a lot of diversity, but damn if you made a loop out of this it'd be perfect for certain games/movies/whatever

Drums are repetitive and doesn't change- uh, ever? except for the beginning...

Very well mastered- I can hear it excellent without needing to put the volume up much. I don't know what the fuck DDR is but this could possible make a nice dance :P

beatmasterJAG responds:

HAHA... DDR=Dance Dance Revolution. Thus this song was designed to be simple and cheap, only lasting for a couple minutes before my poor ol buddy Nukem has a heart attack. Afterall it is 300bpms :]

Thanks for the review!

interesting

Guitar flows pretty well, makes a very nice atmosphere. The FX in the background makes the tune seem creepy too. There seems to be a little clipping though? Becomes pretty messy after a while- sounds like some EQing and such woulda done great to it.

funky

when you try mixing it all it sounds pretty messy. great percussion patterns, nothing to say about samples. Synth choice is a bit weird. Neat bass, orchestra hits are too loud, good work on the tune.

That reminds me, I should be remixing the original Super Mario theme sometime soon

na

not quick, more like extreeeeaaaaaaamleh slow

Nice rainforest effects, where did you get these from? I need some better rain sound effects. Thunder was a tad loud. Wonderful flute-like tone lying under it all, makes me want to use my ton of unused samples :P

Not really much to say about it. I absolutely love this song, I don't see anything wrong about it technically- the mastering is a bit worse but that isn't really important.

Wonderful dark composition Karco. Keep it up!

Karco responds:

By quickie, I meant something that didn't take me very long. ;)

The thunder and rain effects are edits of two MP3 samples a really nice guy gave me. :D Hmm, suppose the thunder was a bit loud now and then, though.

Thanks for the review, SBB, glad you like it. :)

wowza

Maybe I've changed my mind since the review at tmr but I don't care about that now.

That wind sample in the start, get your lowpass filter/EQ and take away the most high-frequent noise, casue in ts current state it's ear-raping and unpleasant

I see you didn't do much with the kick- it still bugs me. The tune is friggin fast, it's the kind of tune I can't sit in my chair and relax with. If you took the kicks on each second beat instead of every one it would surely sound more downtempo, but damn much heavier

Thin detuned sawtoothpaste, it's okay but still... thin. Both the lead and the element are thin- at least for the lead you coulda used a massive amount of oscillators playing as one- then detune the whole thing for a kickass lead, that's what kind of ideas I get of it. The polysynth sounds great. What's it called, isn't is eura/euro-something?

Base is as you could expect without a single tweak- it's okay

Arpeggiated low frequent supersaw sounds good, dreamy and all. Why do people happen to make that exact rhytmic pattern when they arpeggiate synths?

Don't really think it's that great. It's a quality tune for sure but I really like stuff like Troposphere and Nova better. You could want to try my suggestions, I might be very wrong tho

now fo that classical thingy

Karco responds:

You reviewed this song twice? Heh, ok. :P

Yeah, the wind's a bit too loud. It deserves a bit more experimenting than what I gave it.

You're not supposed to relax to this kind of song... ;) Hmm. I gave the kick thing a try, and it definitely works as you say it would, but not for this kind of genre. I could actually make a song out of that idea, though... >:) Maybe. I'll try it with a nice, heavy kick once I get a good one to experiment with.

Sawtoothpaste. :D It's supposed to be thin, not some overpowering, (not even the good way) uplifting, mega-synth like in other songs. Something quieter for the interlude. It's the Ayla Lead preset in Vanguard, though it actually sounds like some kind of acoustic guitar on some kinds of speakers. :O

The rhythmic pattern is an automatic thing - I guess the three-note-chord-on-two-octaves thing might be common?

Hmm. Well, thanks for the extra criticism - you already reviewed on The Music Repository but this review's just as appreciated - if not more - because it's often hard to write two decent reviews that aren't exactly the same on the same song. ;) So thanks a lot. :D

welcome to bluegrounds :))
