wow

So I'm listening to it and I get this holy-shit-feeling, you know, that "that is one extreme flanging effect on that drum kit, why don't you turn that down, I'm trying to sleep"-type holy shit, all of this while you play the weirdest chromatic melodies I've ever heard, in a totally awkward time signature with a really aggressive mix.

I'm overwhelmed!

And even after several listens I can't really make sense out of the melodies and sounds. I mean I hear some nice concepts, like you throw around some diminished chords here and a bit of an altered scale there, but it never sounds pleasant. I guess I just don't get it. :P

Kirbyfemur responds:

lol maybe you shouldn't be trying to sleep when you are listening to the deathmatch song xD

holy shit

That is aggressive and energetic. Kinda sounds like Pendulum on speed with a noisier production, almost to the point where it's funny. But it's very cool. I hear a lot of interesting musical ideas. Very diverse song, cool transitions all over the place. Mix wise, it's definitively a bit too heavy in the mid-high range, since almost every instrument is in that range. A possible solution to this is to do a bit of panning work (pan two similar instruments about halfway to each side), that'll clean stuff up a little and lets you hear each element more clearly. Currently the song sounds almost mono.

Anyway definitively a cool song, and I can really hear there's some effort put into it.

Thanks XD

Anyway
I'll do what I can with Panning :)
Thanks for the review SBB!

oh god

Too much goddamn treble! A very harsh, noisy and unpleasant treble too. Especially during the climax. I can't listen to this at a high volume, it becomes painful. And even at low volumes, it sounds like there's a just layer of noise in the top end of the frequency spectrum.

The melody is sweet though, very nice and joyful. I'm no fan of the super-aggressive distorted kick and synth but I suppose that's what makes this song really

SessileNomad responds:

yeah that happens with the treble :( srry

my gosh

Do you submit stuff somewhere else on the interwebs? I really really want to hear more from you.

gOrc responds:

I was trying to build something up at MySpace, SoundCloud and a german musician community. The problem is that I didn't got enough time to maintaining them and all of this starts came to an early end. If I'm able to establish anywhere else on the web, I will post that in the news.

wow cool

Now those short decay blips of synth (sampled?) are really something. Gives it that certain attitude that I like. Sounds great on its own, gets a bit nauseating in a mix after a while. Still it's what gives the song its character and that's awesome. If you took the modulation effect down a notch (if that's possible) I believe I'd like it better.

Loving that gnarly bass too. Cool song overall.

vaib responds:

thanks :)

oh man

Been listening to it for a while now (thanks for the higher quality version, the difference is enormous actually), and hoooooly shit. This is MASSIVE. So many effects and interesting elements, sooo detailed sound. Amazing atmosphere at times. It sounds experimental and innovative while still being pleasant. New favourite for sure!

And the ear candy! Oh the ear candy. Such a brilliant production. Really makes me appreciate my recent investment in high end headphones. Everything is punchy and sticks out, I admire how you managed to keep the sound so clear with all these different kicks and bass elements.

Some parts get too heavy and intrusive for me. But I can handle it :) Just curious, how long did this work take you?

InvisibleObserver responds:

This took about 4-5 weeks of on and off work. Most of the time whilst 'working' I was on MSN and other sites/games. If I had to guess actual total time spent on it, probably 40-50 hours. It felt very very quick in actuality, only had a week long pause entirely on it when I just wasn't feeling terribly musical.

Thanks SBB for your comments.

well

I'm enjoying the nice rich texture you make with the pads, choir and deep deep strings. The higher notes float very nicely on top it all. Excellent mood in the intro. When you introduce the "war theme" I have a few problems with sound... the percussion is very detailed, but combined with the brassy tone of some instruments, it all sounds pretty harsh/unpleasant. Totally unlike the intro. From a song-based perspective (disregarding that it's soundtrack), they could well be two separate songs (the split being around 1:47 of course).

EvilRaccoon responds:

Thanks for your comments and crits

You shouldn't however disregard this as a soundtrack when listening to it, because that's what its made as. Not only that, its a Trailer-Score sounding piece, meaning that there is a change, an intentional one. I assure you that the split in the track was planned before I started as some of my more listened and prefered tracks are broken up like this.

Although there is that break, both of parts share the same mystic tragedy in them. Like alot of trailers you see now, alot of them have two or three songs, ive seen some with 4 (like the new harry potter trailer), so its frequent to have these changes in this type of music.

ooh

The delay on the kick makes some nice ear candy... you managed to pull that off without making it all muddy. The bass could do some cleaning up though. Liking the sound fx you spice it all up with here and there. I personally think the tune could use some more meat, but I realize it's ambient music. Writing this comment made me hungry.

KKSlider60 responds:

I realize Ambient is not an immediate genre and one needs to "train" his ears to such music. Well, excluding personal tastes of course. Have a nice meal, lol, and thanks for your review

hmm

definitively the best my little pony commercial theme song remix I've heard so far this afternoon.

Step responds:

Why are you...?

You know what never mind.

cool

Really good intro. Atmospheric, with that hat thing that keeps the rhythm right from the start. Then you introduce some additional percussion elements that really build this thing up. You really pulled that off well.

I'm not all for the uppity synths, I think the sound is a bit in conflict with the rest of the song. Like, the bass and percussion is so tight, you know? And then when the heavily processed bells with delay and reverb comes in, that tight quality of the song isn't there anymore. But it does come back later on in the song (specifically everything from 1:35 and on).

The theory nerd in me got a kick from it too, I'm really a fan of that E note that you introduce once in a while. The song is in C minor and generally has that very minor/aeolian feel, so the E (i.e the major third) is very surprising, pleasantly so.

Anyway this is really great. Nice work man!!

ganon95 responds:

thanks for the review!

i felt the bells in the intro gave it a nice strong underwater feeling.

yea the bass and percussion is a bit tight.

the E note is a nice touch eh?

welcome to bluegrounds :))
