Well I can

The title fits greatly. I can like totally imagine a scenario for the song. The retro sounding synth hits are probably the only thing that annoys me, they don't fit with the rest of the song. It's a great song, there's a lot of elements that I really can't say I've heard in a song before. Good work on this, I might check out your newer songs at that site later

itsameyayo responds:

Thanks a ton!

-Yeah, I might make a comeback here, I love Newgrounds since it's easier to connect with people now with the new audio system (me liek alot).

-Retro sounding synth hits? Haha, I guess so, I just edited some normal samples, whatever works to get the good sounds :)

I like. The off tune synth doesnt sound too good to me, but apart from that there's not much I don't like with it. Vocals fit pretty good into the song. good work! Can't really comment much more in this song.

Shenkhar responds:

Thanks for the review SBB. I fixed the off tune synth.. not sure what happened there.

I love the uhh, ethnic percussion, I'll call it that. The industrial and techno elements are an interesting addition that strangely work pretty darn well in the song. It's the kind of song where my finger tap to it without me noticing. Very repetitive in the end of the song, You could probably have added some melodic synths to this song for more diversity. Great work on a different sounding song.

Beach shore sounds in the start of this song is so damn awesome and detailed. If it doesn't bug ya, send me some of these water samples. NOW. I need them SO BADLY, because every time I try finding something that's supposed to be "beach sound effects" I get samples that sound more like white noise sampled with a 5$ mic. The bird samples are also realistic to the point where I take off my headphones to check if they aren't right outside my door. in a few parts of the song they would really do good if they were louder, because as of now it's hardly in there when the main part of the song goes.

The guitar is recorded with great quality, if you didn't use an awesome sample set for the guitar. The reverb on it is quite weird- guitar sounds like it's in a hall, where the sax sounds like it's played in the bottom of Grand Canyon. Or maybe not. And yeah about the sax- I absolutely love it. Such a peaceful and relaxing melody, I also love how it sounds much more "real" than it does in most songs- and if it's a sample set too then I'm kinda amazed at how well you used it.

The drums don't fit too well, though it adds great originality. Some more regular and less steelish drums would sound about as good- I'd prefer it but that's just me. Some pretty good drum samples you have here, though it IS only the same loop going on through the whole track. The windchime was a great addition too, though it sounds pretty cheesy.

Oh I see you put some pianoish thingy here. It sounds like a combination of an electric piano, a jazz vibe bell and a synth- maybe that and a more real sounding piano playing in harmony would do good? I don't know, haven't tryified it myself in any of my songs so you better do it in this song >:C

An absolutely awesome song though it's pretty short and repetitive- and another thing- it's clipping pretty badly. You better turn the volume down a whole lot or at least use a compressor so there's no clipping or other kinds of distortion in the song- the clipping does ruin quite a bit of the feeling this song gives

Right

I don't know what 3-step is at all- but it sounds a whole lot like skipping a note with the drums and bass each measure, which gives a pretty catchy effect, but I bet I'm wrong as always. You seem to be pretty good at it, whatever it is.

The basslead thing you have in the start sounds like you put some highpass ditty on it- it doesn't sound too interesting. plz fade in some distortion (if that's not added, it it is, you better make it more present) thing there. For kicks. The kick sounds good to me, the snare you don't use in the rolls sounds more like an awkward combination of a snare and clap with the weirdest eq ever seen by any human eyes. The pretty thick snare you use in the rolls and buildups aren't bad at all, actually I love them... without the snare rolls the drums altogether would sound pretty much like copy-and-paste-a-bar-all-over patterns

I like the lead, it sounds funny. It sounds like it jumped out of the rave song in the night club and went walking in the mountains screaming "FREEDOM, BITCHES" to the city below it... at least that's what I imagine the lead is doing in this song- Though the melody hardly changes up- you have two melodies with hardly any variations- sure it's not intended to progress (that's obvious) but it's really the most repetitive two minutes I've heard in a while

Pretty good stuff in here if it wasn't for the complete and utter lack of diversity

Karco responds:

3-step means the song uses triplets. Instead of eighth/sixteenth notes, two/four of which fit in one beat, triplets are notes small enough so three of them fit in the same beat. I did make use of rhythms that accomodate six notes in one beat - for example, the snare roll.

Huh, I'm pretty sure that was a Lowpass Filter. But yeah, I was aiming for something to make the intro a bit more interesting. And, distortion? I never considered that, I was going for a cleaner, happier song.

If you're wondering why the general EQ was weird, it was because I did the mastering on a pretty weird pair of headphones, which had some weird treble frequencies and quite weak bass - funny thing was, on the box they were going on and on about the "deep, rich bass" they had. XD I might re-master it sometime, though unless it's repeatedly asked for I probably won't.

I liked the lead too, and, oddly enough, I've had similar thoughts about it come from other people as well. :P I tried to change up the melodies a little bit but it was proving to be more work than it should have been, and, since I was mainly trying to give myself a break and have fun with this song instead of pushing myself like I have been lately, I put it aside and didn't really come back to it at all. :P

Well, SBB, glad you liked the parts you did and thanks for criticising me on the parts you didn't! Thanks for the review. :)

gnargh

I owe you too much reviews- now I feel like not doing so- ye. What's the weird phaser ish thing in the start- sounds like a sample from some movie or something, I can't see how that makes sense when it continues as something completely different. For the drums- If anyone actually played that then I'm pretty surprised, as a kick goes so fast it sounds like a machine gun while the other drums still hit hard. They're also pretty darn diverse and move along perfectly with the track.

The parts change up really quickly- so it could really go with a story made for this- this also sounds like it's made for an epic story of win, but I guess it wasn't made for a story.

You get my five though it only moved the score with like 0.001

(wtf is that thing you're doing from 2:38 called)

DarKsidE555 responds:

EPIC Biatch! Haha, you probably won't see that reply but oh well. You suck! ;)

What's that weird phaserish thing you say? It's a so called soundeffect, dummy. I just slapped that effect over my guitar for the beginning and presto. Weird shit. ;)

Yeah, the kick is pretty much all double fucking around in the hole song. I just love machine gun kicks. :) Epic wins are always included sir, thats why I'm here. ;)

OMG too much smilies. 2:38 = FADE OUT...stupid. ;P

Thanks for da review matey!

totally totally liek totally.

The drums are quite a bit repetitive- but I see ou wanted to use those two breaks. You have some weird effects on them- and there's some silent part between the loop points- but apart from that it's a pretty good experiment. Nothing I'd keep listening to though.

Bento-San responds:

Thanks for the review ill take these points into consideration, although i don't quite get what you mean by there's a silent part in between the loop points, the actual breaks fill the entire bar going to the last half beat, then starting again on the first beat, while all the hits are on time. So in fact there is no gap at all - maybe the fact that its two different breaks gives the illusion of this gap you speak of, if i were to bring the loops closer together they would be out of time.

Yes the drums have some 'weird' effects on them, this is something I've taken out of listening to drill and bass, it helps to break up the repetition you speak of, i think this point basically comes down to personal taste (A good example being the previous reviewer liked the breaks). However i do see your point that the drums could use a little less repetitive and ill take this on board. :)

Thank you very much for your constructive critisism !

yep

piano sound kinda fake here. Damn that kick freakin rocks. Not so sure if I like the snare so much, it would do great if it was thicker and not so airy. The shaker could do good, but it would be awesome if you varied between two our three samples to make a funkier rhytmic feel and it wouldn't make it too annoying either. A pretty good short little thingy.

ah ok

So you're making that rpg right now... wtf is the reason to have a sonic icon there then :P Nice little retro synth you used in this piece. The other sounds fit greatly around the tune of it. Pretty good work here! I liked it a lot, I can really see this going in a game. (Check out my newest song if you could- responses and return greatly appreciated =)

Sonic-Freak responds:

cause' this sonic icon is my mascot xD i'll check out your songs

yeeeeeah right

It's a pretty good short thing, but it would have been SO DAMN MUCH BETTER if you actually made it loop properly. good choir.... synth sounds really cold... song is like in a cave- good work. Though you probably didn't work longon it considering the file size

welcome to bluegrounds :))
